The Foundry is a club and concert venue at 1425 Folsom Street at 10th, in SoMa, San Francisco. It is run by people from the teams that bring you The Faight, a community events venue in the Lower Haight, and Same Same But Different Fest. The business is new, but the people running it have been producing events and music for years.

That matters if you are choosing a venue for a private or corporate event, because most of what decides how an event goes is settled before anyone arrives: how things load in, what order the evening runs, who to call when the plan changes. We deal with those questions for our own club nights and concerts in this same room, so when you bring your event in, you are working with people who already know how the building runs.

The building itself is easy to work with. It went up in 1936 as light industry and still functions like a warehouse: wide doors for load-in, a concrete floor, high ceilings with exposed trusses you can hang from. It also looks good before you add anything, which is the Art Deco lines and the steel-sash windows doing their job.

We reset the room to fit the event. It can run as a gallery, a launch, a seated dinner at one long table, or just the front bar open late for something small.

Private and corporate events here are run with our partner, Escape the Routine, a San Francisco event design and production company. They handle corporate and experiential events — workplace and employee-experience programs, retreats, holiday parties, conference receptions, galas — and they produce in New York, San Diego, Salt Lake City, Washington DC and London as well as here.

In practice, that means you are not renting four walls and figuring out the rest yourself. Someone has to decide when the food lands, where the speaking moment sits, what the room looks like when doors open, and what happens when half of that changes in the last week. That is Escape the Routine's job. You can hand them the whole build, or bring your own producer and use them à la carte for the pieces you are missing.

So a private night here has two teams behind it, doing two different jobs. Escape the Routine designs and runs the event. We run the room: the building, the bars, the sound and light, the staff who work our own nights in this space. Neither side is figuring it out on your evening.
